Leonov’s second trip into space was similarly significant: he commanded the Soviet half of the 1975 Apollo-Soyuz mission — Soyuz 19 — the first joint space mission between the Soviet Union and the United States.

The items have turned up at a U.S. store owned by a Southern Baptist with a flair for self-promotion. It’s the latest stop on a strange journey involving luminaries ranging from UN Secretary General U Thant to Evel Knievel, and which began with Paul VI’s novel decision to allow some of his jewelry to be sold to raise money for charity.

Organizers said the Green Auction: Bid to Save the Earth held for a second year in March and April, raised $1.4 million at a live auction at Christie’s and more than $750,000 from an online auction, led by a three-night private yacht cruise in Cannes which sold for $100,000.

The United Artists studio has created a stunning never-before-auctioned 1932 Mickey Mouse three sheet stock poster and has been snapped up for $35,850 from the Heritage Auction, falling in the estimated range of $18,000 – $38,000. The auction realized a more than 86% sell-through rate by value on 1,258 lots with 1,249 bidders competing for the offerings.

This three sheet poster is just one of 12 that the United Artists studio has created before Disney signed up with Radio-Keith-Orpheum Pictures . This was also the year that Mickey Mouse had won an Academy Award.
